Toronto New Year's Eve Party Guide 2014

New Years party TorontoNew year's eve parties in Toronto create one of those nights when the population of the downtown core swells almost to its breaking point. Revelers will be making their way to a vast array of events via the TTC (free after 7pm!), GO Train, car, cab, and bike - yes, even in the slush with those sparkly New Year's kiss heels. Parties, dinners, concerts, and dances are on everyone's mind. What to hit up? Where is everyone?

You might already be struggling to make sense of your options, so we've highlighted a selection of NYE 2014 celebrations below. For those in the mood to party hop, we've also compiled a ton of options to peruse (that's what we do). This is your night - whether you're planning to be on your worst behaviour or (hold on) going home early, own it. Soon nothing will be the same.

NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTIES: EVENT SPACES, HOTELS, CONCERT HALLS + ALTERNATIVE VENUES

Lemon Bucket New Year's Eve with Koljadnynky at The Opera House

Toronto's 15-piece European-gypsy-folk super band Lemon Bucket Orkestra will be celebrating the end of 2013 at the Opera House. Koljadnynky will open the show and get the dance party started. Tickets $20 in advance, $30 at the door; available online or for pick up at La Pallete or Sunrise Records. Doors open at 9:00pm.

New Year's Eve at The Tranzac

The Tranzac is a favourite haunt of Toronto music fans on the hunt for new, exciting sounds, so naturally this NYE party is heavy on the indie music line up. We're talking 10 bands in 3 rooms, plus a DJ filling in the space between to keep you moving while you await the midnight (freebie alert!) champagne toast. On the bill are Hooded Fang, Kashka, Weaves, Maloo (Maylee Todd) and more. Tickets are $15 advance (Rotate This, Soundscapes and Tranzac) or $17 at the door.

YLMC NYE 2014 Dwayne Gretzky & DJ Lazy Ray at Palais Royale Ballroom

Beloved Toronto promoters Young Lions Music Club will take over the historic Palais Royale for NYE 2014 where you'll get a chance to hear what is arguably one of the best cover bands around: Dwayne Gretzky. DJ Lazy Ray will also perform, spinning groovy tunes from the vaults of disco, funk, and rock n' roll. Tickets are $35 at Rotate This, Soundscapes or Ticketfly.

Shit Fun / Bath Salts NYE

Shit Fun and Bath Salts are a congregation of Toronto's dirtiest internet users and they're back with a New Year's Eve party at Cinecycle where the leather and studs will be squeaking and clinking off each other all over the place. Kontravoid, Huren, Adrienne K., Ghettocyb.org and Datastalker are on the bill, plus audio/visual artists Sarin and Jubal Brown. There will be champagne, and stuff.

NYE at Double Double Land feat. A Man Called Warwick

Double Double Land in Kensington Market have put together a weird line up for y'all - the crew promise free "artisanal spiked punch" (what, c'mon, what?), hors d'oeuvres, special decor, and a midnight countdown by Life of a Craphead, plus music via A Man Called Warwick - "of legendary tropical dance night Turning Point and owner of one of the best record collections around" plus Daniel Vila and Val Uher. The room is tiny, windowless, and dark, aka not for the claustrophobic. Hurray! Tickets are $15.

Fuck 2013 at Soybomb HQ

You don't have to hate yourself to join this "New Year's Party bash with party bash bands that'll bash your party faces" - but you do need to be ready for things to get loud. The dinner plan is a variety of punk, and includes VICES, Deadmouth, Wolfs, Blastronaut, NO FUCKING AROUND, Lightning For Legs, and blackbelt. A dirty fiver bill gets you in the door.
