Today in Toronto the city gets another downtown, outdoor skating rink tucked away between some sky scrapers in the Financial Disctrict. Did someone say lunchtime skate break? There's also some really great concerts on the menu tonight if you'd rather hang out indoors.
Events you might want to check out:Holiday Market and Skate (December 13-15 @ Bay Adelaide Centre, Arnell Plaza)
Hosted in the heart of Toronto’s Financial District, this holiday market is curated by Usful and features a public skating rink. It's a BYOS (bring your own skates!) situation and you can expect local vendors selling a variety of luxury gifts, artisanal food, and holiday goodies around the rink. The rink and market are open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Trivia Night At The Lockhart (December 13 @ The Lockhart)
The Harry Potter themed bar promises there won't be any Nifflers around to steal the grand prize, but there will be talk of them! This trivia night is based on the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. So if you haven't read it or seen the movie, you better start flipping pages. Everything starts at 7 p.m.
Indie Night (December 13 @ The Piston)
One of Bloor West's best spots for live music and dancing hosts a night of free indie music. Poesy, Mercy Flight and Elise LeGrow all perform starting at 9 p.m., and there's absolutely no cover. Discover something new without touching your wallet.
Bouncing Souls (December 13 @ Lee's Palace)
New Brunswick's fave punk rockers take over Lee's Palace with Masked Intruder and Off With Their Heads. Doors open at 7 p.m.
The Struts (December 13 @ The Opera House)
Before even releasing their first album, U.K.-bred four-piece The Struts opened for The Rolling Stones in front of a crowd of 80,000 in Paris, got hand-picked by Motley Crue to serve as the supporting act for their four last-ever performances. Now their debut is out, and they're in Toronto, so you can check out what all the hoopla is about.
Elizabeth - Darcy (December 13-18 @ Campbell House Muesum)
After selling every ticket before opening night in December 2015, this immersive comedy is fast becoming a beloved Toronto holiday tradition. Three more performances have been added to this year’s run to meet public demand for tickets. Audiences are still excited about the play which remains true to Austen’s classic story while invigorating it with a refreshing, gender-bending twist.
DVSN (December 13 @ REBEL)
The OVO-signed duo take the stage at Rebel for a night of smooth, future R&B. They made an appearance on Drake's Views album on the "Faithful" track and continue to rise. Catch them while you can.
Queer Songbook Orchestra (December 13 @ Burdock)
Toronto's queer and allied chamber pop orchestra present their second annual holiday fundraiser. This night will feature a number of guest singers, as well as storytellers from the community sharing tales of personal queer experience in relation to the holidays. All proceeds from this night will go to support Rainbow Railroad.
Tinder Tales Live (December 13 @ Gladstone Melody Bar)
Comedians, storytellers, and people who have never been on stage before, share their outrageous Tinder and other various online dating stories live on stage. It's hosted by Dean Young with stories from eight brave souls. A Jann Arden Christmas (December 13 @ Roy Thomson Hall)
Canada’s beloved pop diva Jann Arden brings her flawless voice and warm, witty personality to this holiday-season extravaganza! She'll sing all your Xmas favourites, but it's her banter that will be the true entertainment of the night. There'll also be special guests.
Union Station Holiday Market (December 5-16 @ Union Station)
Toronto Market Co.’s Union Station Holiday Market showcases unique merchandise from specialty retailer, artisans, designers, food vendors and cultural institutions inside Union Station. The market is open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day and admission is free.
Holiday Fair in Nathan Phillips Square (December 8-23 @ Nathan Phillips Square)
This brand new Christmas market at Nathan Phillips Square might give the Distillery District a run for its money. This event, inspired by European Christmas markets, features artisans, food vendors, rides and of course, Santa Claus.
Evergreen's Winter Village (December 10 - February 28 @ Evergreen Brick Works)
A major highlight of this holiday market at the Brick Works this year is the huge winter street food market. It operates alongside the annual vendors' market and the holiday makers' market. Admission is free and everything is local.
