The best Korean restaurants in Toronto are, unsurprisingly, mostly located in Koreatown (both north and south). But new iterations of traditional dishes are popping up around the city, giving us modern versions of tofu stews to-go and squash poutine with kimchi.
Here are the best Korean restaurants in Toronto.
7 - Kimchi Korea HouseNear Dundas and Bay, this bustling spot does traditional Korean dishes like bulgogi, seafood pancakes and kimchi stew for both a lunch and dinner crowd.
11 - Jung Soo Nae
If you’ve never tried seasoned raw crab, you have to try it at this Koreatown North restaurant. It may be small, but its menu packs a punch with seafood dishes, like rice cakes mixed with baby octopus at a tableside grill.
9 - Uncle Mikey's
Serving up boozy drinks and Korean snacks is this hip Dundas West restaurant. You’ll find small plates of tuidak, potato salads with pickled daikon, and jjajangmyeon made with Italian pasta to go with your sake or soju.
8 - Hawk & Chick
Head to Dundas West to feast on the delicious to-go meals from this homey takeout spot. Boxes are hulking with purple rice and sides like spicy pork bulgogi, and those with a kimchi obsession can buy cheap containers of traditional pickled veggies from the fridge.
10 - Song Cook's
Hidden at the back of a strip mall by Yonge & Steeles, this authentic Korean restaurant is huge, with a menu to match, from dolsot bibimbap and japchae to ssam and gamjatang.
3 - Cho Sun Ok
The vibes are always right at this incredibly popular restaurant in Koreatown North. The specialty has always been naengmyeon, but nearly everything else, from the bibimbap to the kkanpungki, is amazing too.
5 - Buk Chang Dong Soon Tofu
Head to this restaurant’s original, orange-walled location on Bloor or the second on Yonge to dine on soft tofu stews. There are only nine items on the menu, but they’re all good, and equally delicious at either location.
4 - Oddseoul
Easily one of the most popular snack bars in the city is this Ossington eatery, open late into the night. Sliders, poutine, and fried chicken wings are mashed up with Korean flavours, made extra tasty with strong cocktails.
6 - Korean Village Restaurant
A classic choice for dinner in Koreatown with an overwhelming menu that includes DIY BBQ kalbi, pork belly and, of course, complimentary banchan made by the owner. This restaurant's been around since 1978; even Olivia Chow, Jackie Chan and Nelly Furtado have eaten here.
