5 things to do in Toronto today

We're midway through the week and there's no reason to start the party early with things to do in Toronto today including a tribute to the great David Bowie and the return of The Phantom of the Opera. There's a theatre festival, music and drag on, too.

Events you might want to check out:

Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars (January 8 @ The Royal Cinema)
Royal Stompbox is back with a tribute to the late, great Davi Bowie on his birthday that takes us back to his Ziggy Stardust days of the early 70s.
Surfaces (January 8 @ Mod Club)
Soak up the sun with the soulful and chill grooves of Texas' Surfaces as the duo rock their hip-hop beats that bring you back to the days of summer.
House of Kings (January 8 @ Glad Day Bookshop (Church))
The first open stage of the year is here with kings and gender performers taking the stage for a night of song, dance, music and fun.
The Next Stage Theatre Festival (January 8-19 @ Factory Theatre)
New and bold, independent theatre is on at this festival with twelve plays that explore politics, bodies, genders, abilities, fears and desires.
Phantom of the Opera (January 8 - February 2 @ Princess of Wales Theatre)
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic Phantom Of The Opera is back with a whole new look and feel featuring new designs, lighting and choreography.
