Prepare for another busy weekend on Toronto roads

road closures torontoAs Toronto prepares for another hot and sticky weekend, the traffic forecast calls for congestion on city streets. There are multiple road closures for both construction and events that drivers and cyclists will want to avoid. Meanwhile, partial closures of the subway system will present problems for transit commuters.

The Toronto Waterfront 10K will bring with it a host of closures along the route this Saturday. University will be shutdown between Dundas and Front streets as will York Street between Front Street and Bremner Boulevard between 4:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Starting at 7:30 a.m. rolling closures will accompany the runners along Lake Shore Boulevard all the way to Parkside Drive.

While the big parades don't start until next weekend, the Village Festival will close Church St. down between Wood and Gloucester streets between 9 a.m Saturday until 2 a.m. on Monday. Those heading to Nuit Rose should plan to TTC or cycle to the all-night art festivities.

Eglinton Ave. will be closed between Dufferin and Ronald Ave. for the Fairbank Village BIA's Multicultural Celebration from 2 a.m. on Saturday until 5 a.m. on Monday. With construction around Allen Rd. for the Crosstown LRT, this area is best avoided altogether.

The Annex Family Festival will close Bloor St. between Spadina and Bathurst streets on Sunday from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. Given that the intersection of College and Bathurst is already closed for TTC track work, you should probably take a wide berth around this whole area.

Speaking of the TTC, Line 3 is closed all weekend between McCowan and Kennedy while Sunday sees Line 2 closed between Pape and St. George Station for track work and signal upgrades.

Stay patient and safe, Toronto.
