The top 10 computer repair shops in Toronto

computer repair torontoThe top computer repair shops in Toronto can be lifesavers when you need to get your machine back up and running after a liquid spill, screen damage, or temporary loss of data. In the world of Applecare and cheap PC laptops, fewer people turn towards repair shops than a decade ago, but when you need service, it makes a huge difference when it's fast and reliable.

These are my picks for the top computer repair shops in Toronto.

WinMac
Don't let the name fool you, WinMac only does repairs on Macbooks. That's it. But it's a hidden gem in the dreary Shops at Aura. Turn around times are very quick here, and on-the-spot repairs aren't unheard of when they have the required parts in stock.

Glitch Fix
Formerly called All About Mac, this repair centre on Steeles Avenue is run by the friendly and attentive duo of Jilbert and Jeffrey. Labour is $45 an hour, and the shop can handle pretty much an Mac repair under the sun. Date recovery services are also offered.

The Guy Who Fixes Computers
This Kensington Market shop run by the affable computer whiz Calvin prides itself on quick repairs, and is a favourite spot of U of T students. Service is offered for both Macs and PC products, including screen repair, hardware replacements/upgrades, data recovery, and virus removal.

PCNix Toronto
Got a dying PC computer that you need to save? This Scarborough shop specializes in non-Mac repairs with a focus on laptops. Repair speeds are aided by a healthy stock of used parts that help to cut down on order times. Data recovery is competitively priced.

Electron Computers
This shop near Yonge and Finch doesn't put a lot of energy into merchandizing or advertising, but they're a reliable source for all manner of computer repairs, and offer quick and cheap diagnostic services for both PC and Mac computers. As the parts that surround the store will attest, this is a repair-first outfit that can often fix a broken machine without having to order in new parts from overseas.

PC Shop Computers
The store's website looks like it was built in 1999, but they offer reliable repair services on both Mac and PC products, as well as a huge selection of cheap hardware for DIY types looking to service their own machines.

Laptop Specialist
Jeff goes the extra mile when it comes to service, which is most apparent in the shop's excellent communication regarding timelines and financial estimates. All major repairs are covered on both Mac and PC products.

Computronic
One of Toronto's older computer repair shops, Computronic has built a reputation for professionalism and speedy repair times. It's not the cheapest shop out there, but the technicians can't fix most anything, and the store is good about honouring its assessments and estimating the time it'll take to fix your machine.

Infotech Computers
This small shop near Dufferin and Lawrence sells dirt cheap refurbished PC laptops, but also specializes in repairs for both PC and Mac. Prices are competitive and turn around times are usually 24-72 hours depending on the nature of the repair. The store also does data recovery and virus removal.

iRepair
Known for their iPhone repair services, this shop (with three locations in Toronto) also offers service on iPads and Mac computers, though the turn around time is typically longer.
