The top 10 rental photography studios in Toronto

Photography rental studio torontoThe top 10 rental photography studios in Toronto are ideally suited to the photographer who finds him or herself in need of a space to do a staged shoot. Luckily, there are plenty of rental studios available for just such a scenario. I checked in with our photo team, as well as some talented photographer friends, and put together this photog-endorsed list of rental photography studios for your convenience. Aside from shooting space, most of the studios on this list also go out of their way to make you feel at home, renting out additional photo equipment, and provide extras like kitchen facilities, steamers, makeup and dressing areas and WiFi.

Album Studio Rentals

If you're on the hunt for a more high-end studio space, check out this spot on Geary Ave near Dufferin and Dupont. It offers up no fewer than 4,800 square feet of space behind an unassuming exterior. Album Studio Rentals features two studio spaces in one, with the smaller going for $350 per day and the larger at $650 a pop.

Pikto

If you go with Pikto, your studio is the historic Distillery District. Pikto provides exclusive access for shooting in the area, with permits starting at $225. Of course, anyone is permitted to take shots in the district, but for professional shoots, Pikto is the way to go. They'll also set you up with photo prints, mounting services, photobooks and greeting cards.

Revprint Studio 205

Revprint Studio at Kipling and Lake Shore Blvd. W. has a number of options available at affordable rates. If you just need half a day, you can rent space for four hours during the week for $85, or you can have the space for a full eight hours at $140. The studio is by appointment only, but you can check out a video of their facilities on their site.

Working Proof Studios

Working Proof Studios is a shiny facility set up at Dundas and Carlaw. All studio equipment is included with a rental, including a hair and makeup area. Rates are $45 per hour, $160 for half a day and $270 for a full day.

Loft 302

Loft 302 is located in Leslieville, at Dundas and Carlaw. For decent rates, the studio offers the gamut of extras, including dishes, a coffee press, makeup station, etc. The shooting area is 1,200 square feet of brightly lit space, and it can be rented for $100 for half a day, and $200 for a full day.

Studio 202

Studio 202 is one of the prettiest spaces on this list. It used to be a knitting factory, and the building was constructed in the 1940s. Given its quaintness and good energy, its rates are amazing: $70 for four hours, and $250 for the full day. Rates change on the weekend, though. They've got wifi, a full kitchen, and typical extras like a steamer and rolling rack.

Hello Studios

This studio at Queen and Dufferin in Parkdale doesn't have the most natural light, and it's probably not going to be the top pick for fancy folk. But it is a great option if you're just starting out and need to save some dough. There's a make-up area, wifi, and a comfy waiting area for clients. The space can be rented for $90 for a four hour session, and $150 for eight hours.

@Sumach Studio

Sumach Studio is flooded with natural light and provides a more homey experience than some studios, if that's what you're looking for. There's a fully-outfitted professional kitchen (indlusing a deep-fryer...), a wardrobe and makeup room, and they have wifi. It's rented by the day at a rate of $300.

Silverline Studios

Silverline Studios includes a total of three studio spaces, all of which are pretty breathtaking, to be honest. They'll cost you, though. A day in Studio C goes for $700. But if you're a pro photographer working on a special project in this specific type of space, this Leslieville studio at Eastern and Pape is worth checking out.

Make Blv

This studio, also in Leslieville, is the dreamy place of a girly photog's dreams. The makeup mirror is surrounded by bulbs like the mirrors of many Hollywood starlet (or cranky pageant queen) and the light is stunning. Rentals are done through fashion photographer Ishmil Waterman. Pricing is incredibly low for this spot, too, at $45 per hour, $175 for four, and $300 for eight.
