The lawyer for one of the alleged drug dealers in the now infamous photo of Rob Ford outside 15 Windsor Rd. is trying to have the crack video released. Daniel Brown, counsel for Mohammad Khattak, will argue in court that releasing the video would represent "relevant disclosure" and may assist his client's defence. Brown invited Ford to join his application, which, if successful, could see the files made public by the end of the week.
Another batch of Rob Ford-related court documents could be made public by the end of the week. The results of a series of wiretaps conducted as part of a police investigation in to Ford and the crack video, which were blacked out last week, were ordered unredacted by a Superior Court judge yesterday. According to the Star, the information could be in the hands of media in the next few days.
You might have noticed Rob Ford was wearing a ridiculous NFL tie during his sombre and apologetic press conference yesterday afternoon. Sporting News managed to definitively trace the neckwear to 1995 based on the team logos visible (yep, really) and as luck would have it the same design is currently for sale on eBay. Now you can look like a contrite mayor too!
Here's a blast from the past via the CBC's digital archive. It's councillor Rob Ford in a news piece from 2005 about crack cocaine in Canada's cities. Back then Toronto's future chief magistrate had different opinion on crack. "We have to go after the dealers, we have to go after the importers. And I mean tough, no nonsense. This bleeding heart approach is not working," he said of harm reduction strategies like safe injection sites.
The number of magazines available in Toronto Public Library's digital collection is about to drastically drop. Rogers Media, one of the country's largest publishers, has walked away from its agreement with Zinio and pulled Maclean's, Chatelaine, Money Sense, and others from the popular app. It's rumoured Rogers will launch a rival digital service.
Also in reading, Chapters is abandoning its store at Bloor and Runnymede. The branch, housed inside the historic "Runny" theatre, will make way for a drug store before March 2014, a representative from the company told Inside Toronto. The book store has been open for more than 15 years.
Finally, in happier news, the floats for this year's Christmas parade have been officially unveiled. There will be giant Smurfs, a Lego snow fort, and a gingerbread house with Oreo cookie wheels in the 109th annual parade that will run along Bloor, University, and Wellington streets on Nov. 17.
