Scarborough singer-songwriter The Weeknd performs at Toronto's best concert venue tonight with a shiny new record deal and a debut studio album, Kiss Land. FILM | Toronto After Dark Film Festival

Cult, sci-fi and horror freaks: it's your time of year. The 8th edition of Toronto After Dark launches today with nine days of genre films titled names like Cockneys vs. Zombies, Father's Day and even the Paris Hilton classic Repo! The Genetic Opera. MUSIC | Uma Nota Festival

Uma Nota Festival of Tropical Expressions is a four day celebration of music, arts and culture from North and South America. Focusing on Afro-Brazilian, Latin, Caribbean, funk and soul music, the festival includes live acts and DJs like Uproot Andy and Geko Jones, Alice Russell and Rick Udler plus films, workshops and talks. READINGS | Chuck Palahniuk

Reading from his new book "Doomed", legendary author and creator of "Fight Club" Chuck Palahniuk will be in Toronto this evening to speak with fans at Walter Hall. Pre-signed copies will be available to ticket purchasers and Palahniuk will participate in a Q&A following the reading. ART | A Place of Refreshment

A Place of Refreshment is one artist's depiction of an emotional vacation, set shortly after the end of the world, where fantasy and reality have collided. Death, anxiety, hope and luxury are themes that come together in this illustrative show by Marc O'Brien. The opening reception takes place in the 2nd floor gallery at The Gladstone tonight with the exhibit running until December 8th. The Gladstone Hotel 2nd Floor (1214 Queen Street West) 7PM Free
