NEWS
Artist Micah Lexier and fashion designer Jeremy Laing have put their creative heads together to design a collection of limited edition silk scarves for Drake General Store. Their original artwork, titled Coloured Dot Scarf Puzzle, features rich colours and patterns and is printed across four scarves. They can be worn individually, or you can collect them all for $100 a pop! The collection will be available online, in-store at Drake General Store's four locations including Drake One Fifty, and at The Power Plant (231 Queens Quay W) in November.
TWYFORD, a new Toronto-based menswear label, launched earlier this month with their first collection of premium comfort wear, a.k.a. fancy sweats. After internships with Greta Constantine, Smythe, and Robert Geller, designer Matthew Davies thought it was time to start something of his own. The collection - which includes drawstring pants with quilted shins - will be available at Jacflash (1036 Queen St W) and Gerhard Supply (2949 Dundas St W).
EVENTS/PARTIES
Contraband (154 Cumberland St), a luxury/mid-range hybrid menswear boutique in Yorkville, is celebrating their first anniversary this Friday (November 1) - and they want you there with them! Pop by to peruse their fall/winter gear over a drink or two and some hors d'oeuvres from 8 pm until 11 pm.
This Saturday (November 2), support North York General Hospital with a night of fashion and glamour at the re-launch of Heart of Fashion, their annual fundraising event. This year, it'll include a runway show hosted by Jeanne Beker, live entertainment by Karl Wolf, an auction for prizes (like tickets to see the highly anticipated Victoria's Secret fashion show), cocktails, and gourmet food. Tickets are $250 a pop and are available online.
Toronto Fashion Week may have ended last week, but as a womenswear-dominated event, menswear needs a little bit more time to shine. Next week, from Monday (November 4) until Wednesday (November 6), Uniun (473 Adelaide St W) will be home to Modern Man, the city's first men's fashion week open to the public. Aside from runway shows by seven designers - including Canada's own Christopher Bates and Roots - there'll be a local designer pop-up shop and complimentary straight razor shaves by Mankind Grooming Studio. Tickets range from $20 to $130 and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Movember.
SALES
From today (October 30) until Sunday (November 3), the International Centre (6900 Airport Rd, Hall 3) is housing the second annual Nike warehouse sale in Toronto (well, technically it's in Mississauga, but that's close enough). Admission is free, and the giant stock of men's, women's and children's apparel and accessories - marked at the lowest of low prices - will be replenished daily.
