Queer parties in Toronto are loud, proud, and extremely diverse. They provide a place to let loose, be yourself, and maybe pick up a number if you're lucky. We were all 19 once, and many have put in their fair share of wild nights in The Village. After a while it's easy to get tired of the same faces, the same music, and bumping into five of your exes on a regular basis. If you're looking for a fresh place to party, this roundup of inclusive, dance-happy bashes will offer up a little something different.
Yes Yes Y'all
This Annex Wreckroom party is touted as the sweatiest dancehall jam in the city. It gets so hot that after one song you'll wonder why you spent so long on your hair in the first place. The YYY crew spins RnB, dancehall, and hip-hop all night, and during special events they bring in incredible performers like Shi Wisdom, Bon Jay and Zebra Katz. This party takes the cake for sheer size, meaning that hells yes there are a whole whack of hotties to look at. They're twerking on stage, tearing up the dance floor, doing shots at the bar, and gossiping on the patio. With so many people to meet, it's easy to stay 'til last call. Yes Yes Y'all heats up every third Friday, the next one is on November 15th.
Cherry Bomb
Cherry Bomb is a flirty, dance-your-ass-off party for queer women and their friends. It all goes down at the Andy Poolhall the second last Saturday of each month. Especially with the disappearance of Slacks, queer ladies gotta find a place to bust moves. DJ-dyke-duo Cosmic Cat and Denise Benson become our heroines for the night. They spin diverse sets of house, pop-remixes, hip-hop, and all the right throwbacks at just the right time. If you're not into dancing, don't fret; it is a poolhall after all. Join in on a game, and ask the cute pool shark to show you how to break. The next Cherry Bomb gets set off on November 23rd.
Back to Church
This young party just celebrated its one-year anniversary in October with an all out banger at Church on Church. These events are based on inclusion, acceptance, and great music, making them fun for pretty much everyone who likes to party. Every second Friday, DJ Delicious is joined by a guest DJ, and together they light up the dance floor with house, hip hop, and top 40 hits. Word about this party has spread fast, queues get quite long before midnight. Repent your sins at the next Back to Church on November 8th.
CrushTO
Crush parties are sex-positive playgrounds where the kinky come out to play! There's a unique theme each month, complete with décor, entertainment, and party-goers sporting their most creative getups. There have been comic nerds in capes, sinners at Church of Crush, and tight n' bright rainbow costumes just to name a few. Early in the night, burlesque performances get the audience rowdy. Soon after, shirts come off, faces stick together and the dance floor gets wild. And if you're into being bait for the sexy queer-types, it gets even better. Upon your arrival you'll be given a number tag, wear it proud, and keep an eye on the big screen that just might show people tweeting compliments your way. I'd Tap That throws Crush Halloween on Saturday October 26th at Club 120 (formerly Good Handy's).
Big Primpin'
The long-running homo hip-hop night fills up Wrongbar the first Friday of every month. The eclectic crowd of quirky, stylish mo's are attracted to this party vibe falls outside the mainstream. Meaning you don't have to line up for the bar behind hundreds of topless boys drinking Rev like it's going out of style. Just so you know, although it's labelled a hip-hop night, DJ's are just as likely to play Britney as they are Busta. It's a super diverse and inclusive night, so you'll find party-goers from from all over the gender and sexuality spectrums. Go primpin' in Parkdale November 1st.
