Toronto record stores see spike in Prince album sales

prince torontoWhen a legend such as Prince passes away, fans turn to music to mourn. As Toronto record stores - such as Kops - play Prince 45s all day, many music lovers are stopping by to pick up Prince albums of their own.

Kops, Sonic Boom and June Records have all had numerous customers come in seeking to buy a piece of Prince's discography.

"Somebody just came in and bought like a whole row of Prince records," says Raf, who works at June Records, which is located on College Street. The store now has two Prince albums left: one copy each of Purple Rain and 1999.

"People are scooping them up and we're playing Prince records all day. It's really sad, I'm kind of heartbroken," he continues.

Prince's sudden death left many in shock, especially since he just wowed local audiences at two sold-out performances at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts.

The Purple Rain singer maintained a special connection with Torontonians, especially after he lived here for a short time in the early 2000s.
