It may seem like a tall order, but a select number of Toronto-area Starbucks will start serving craft beer, hard cider, and wine on Tuesday, April 5.
Yes, the ubiquitous chain will join our city's roster of cafe-bar hybrids, including places such as Page One, Northwood and The Walton. The so-called Starbucks Evening menu, which will start at 2 p.m., will feature a selection of "curated small plates" because Bistro Boxes just aren't chic enough for the p.m.
Expect to see ambitious (and trendy) sounding dishes like meatballs with tomato basil sauce ($5.95), truffle popcorn ($2.95), truffle mac and cheese ($6.95), bacon wrapped dates with balsamic glaze ($5.95) and parmesan crusted chicken skewers ($5.95).
To wash it all down, Starbucks will offer a small menu of Ontario beer from Amsterdam Brewery and Muskoka Brewery as well as cider from Pommies Cider Co. The wine menu boasts a few VQA bottles as well as reds and whites from Italy, California and Argentina ($9 to $13 a glass).
It's not clear whether you'll be able to convince your barista to add a splash of Pommies to your iced venti Passion tea lemonade for a fruity and effervescent cider cocktail (pro tip: mix it together yourself).
The Starbucks Evening menu will be available only at these three locations: 3079 Bloor St. W., 446 Spadina Rd. and 1740 Avenue Rd.
