Toronto gets a new holiday pop-up market

A new pop-up is about to transform the vacant lot at 335 Yonge St., just north of Dundas, into a winter wonderland of handmade local goods. (And you thought Dundas Square was impersonal.) The new marketplace, dubbed #localTOmrkt, will allow local designers and artisans to showcase their wares to holiday shopping crowds between November 28 and December 24.

The lot, which has stood vacant since a fire in 2011, will now host makers and sellers of clothing, jewelry, foods, cards, and all manner of gift-ready goods under a (heated!) tent. There's a dozen or so already on board, and they're still looking for more vendors interested in showing their stuff to the roughly 120,000 pedestrians that pass by the area each week.
