Fans at the recently crowned Bird Nest at Toronto's city hall left disappointed yesterday after the Blue Jays lost 5-3 to the Texas Rangers in game one of the ALDS, but there were a few moments when the potential of Nathan Phillips Square as a viewing venue seemed very promising.
Although the screen that airs the games is a tad smaller than ideal and a huge portion of the Square is still taken up by JR's Inside Out exhibit for Nuit Blanche, when the fans get excited, this proves a unique place to watch the Jays. In fact, based on the turnout yesterday, the fact that everyone is clustered toward the television is a good thing because there's more fan interaction.
While more people were expected to show up yesterday, given that the start of today's game corresponds with many people's lunch hour (12:45pm), one would expect to see a larger crowd today. If the Jays can even the series, that'll also bode well for future games that aren't scheduled during conventional office hours. Have a look at the Bird's Nest below.
