Goat gets rescued from Toronto slaughterhouse

Toronto Cow SaveSlaughterhouses are considered to be some of the least compassionate institutions - and for good reason. But on Thursday a Toronto protest group proved that they, too, can show empathy.

On March 24, a goat named #151 - or as she's now called, Lily - was set for death at a facility in the GTA but instead of being sent to the slaughterhouse she was handed over to members of Toronto Cow Save, a group that regularly hosts vigils at local slaughterhouses.

How did they swing it? According to their Facebook, they "appealed to a shared, higher law of mercy and compassion" - proving that not all animal rights protests have to include mass amounts of kicking and screaming (remember when Direct Action Everywhere tried to find sympathy at the Keg Mansion?)

Lily will now reside at Meadowlarke Stables in Brampton, where she will "live a natural life with fellow rescued horses, cows, pigs, ducks, chickens, cats, dogs, and people" instead of ending up on a dinner plate .
