This Week in Fashion: LAB Consignment Pop-Up, WORN Journal Black Cat Ball, Cuchara Sample Sale

Black Cat BallThis Week in Fashion rounds up the week's style news, store openings and closings, pop-up shops, sales and upcoming fashion and design events in Toronto. Find it here every Wednesday morning.

NEWS

A couple of weeks ago, Toronto's own Trend Trunk - an online consignment concept - approached the panel on Dragons' Den and walked away with a $200k deal with Kevin O'Leary, only to pass it up post-show. With future goals still in tact, the Trend Trunk team is now looking at you for help to further develop their growing marketplace. Claim a gift card, a shout out, a badge, or any of the other perks when you contribute to the cause.

EVENTS/PARTIES

WORN Fashion Journal's beloved Black Cat Ball is just around the corner! To celebrate their 17th issue, snag a $10 advanced ticket or pay $15 at the door and get jiggy with it at the party this Saturday (November 23). Wear black and white, rock a pair of cat ears, and enter one of the many raffles for ample fun at The Dovercourt House (805 Dovercourt Rd) from 9 pm until 2 am.

LAB Consignment may have closed its brick-and-mortar location to live as an online boutique, but that doesn't mean you'll never have another shot at seeing and feeling their fashion-forward gear in the flesh! Until Sunday (November 24), you can swing by Rac Boutique (78 Ossington Ave) to peruse the LAB pop-up shop, no doubt filled to the brim with second-hand (and off-priced!) designer fashions.

John Varvatos - a menswear brand aimed at the refined (aspiring) rock star - has officially landed at Yorkdale Shopping Centre (3401 Dufferin St) as the first location outside of the US. To celebrate the new store and the launch of John's first published book Rock in Fashion, pop by from 7 pm until 9 pm today (November 20) for a gander at the new collection, complimentary cocktails, and a book signing with the man himself.

Grab a $30 ticket to attend Local Buttons' jewellery and accessories collection launch party tomorrow night (November 21) from 8 pm until the wee hours of the morning. Sip some local brews and shimmy to the sounds of a live DJ while shopping the new line at The Great Hall (1087 Queen St W). Plus, partake in some body painting and watch a cabaret dance show, while you're at it! A percentage of proceeds will go straight to H.E.R.O, an organization dedicated to providing housing, education, nutrition, and rehabilitation to orphans and street kids in Haiti.

Rosie the Rebel and Loveless boutique (961 Bloor St W) are hosting their very first holiday style event in Toronto tomorrow (November 21) from 7 pm until 10 pm. Aspiring rockabilly girls take notes, because Blonde Moxie and Kristen Foote will be carrying out hair and makeup tutorials to help you create the perfect pin up look for your upcoming parties. And don't forget to bring a date! There'll be cupcakes and champagne for all, and retro menswear will be tax-free for the night.

SALES

Fortnight - a lingerie brand designed and manufactured in Parkdale - is offering up to 50% off on past collections this weekend. On Friday (November 22) from 4 pm until 8 pm or on Saturday (November 23) from 11 pm until 7 pm, head to their studio space (1239 Queen St W, Suite 202) for a deal on a modestly sexy bodysuit or a figure-flattering bustier. But, be sure to visit an ATM beforehand; the sale accepts cash only!

Toronto-based jewellery brand Cuchara is having a sample sale on Saturday (November 23) and Sunday (November 24), so pop by their studio (34 Noble St, Unit 203) for a major discount on a funky statement necklace. Don't forget to bring a non-perishable food item to donate - you'll get an extra 10% off your purchase, and help somebody in need!

Until the end of the month, eyewear retailer Karir is offering up to 50% off on select styles at all of their Toronto boutiques. Visit their First Canadian Place (1 First Canadian Pl), Yorkville (138 Cumberland St), or Yorkdale (3401 Dufferin St) locations for a chance at a swanky new pair of Linda Farrows or Thierry Lasrys at a much lower price!
