Now that bakeries, restaurants and cafes are starting to offer more gluten free options, why should the gluten intolerant folk among us still be deprived of the smooth satisfying taste of beer at the local watering hole?


Here are 10 bars, listed in no particular order, where you can enjoy real beer flavour on your night out, with none of the debilitating side-effects of gluten.

Get Well

Near Dundas and Ossington, this quirky bar pairs mismatched decor and a selection of old school arcade games with a killer beer selection. It's a great place for hanging out during the week, or to mingle with a packed house on the weekends. Gluten free beers: Glutenberg $8.00 and New Grist $5.25.


Victory Cafe

This popular two-level pub tucked away on Markham Street is also know for having a great beer selection. In warmer month their patio is a big draw for the Annex crowd but also so good it's a worthy cross-town destination. Gluten free beer: Nickel Brook $4.87.


The Rhino

The Rhino in Parkdale has an extensive beer list which thankfully includes more than one gluten free beer. The bar is big, the patio is bigger, and there are a couple of pool tables to show off your skills inside this laid back bar/restaurant. Unlovable

This underground bar hidden beneath a travel agency on Dundas West comes complete with walls postered with kitschy Soviet propaganda, a Philadelphia Flyers garbage can, and a Star Wars pinball machine. Gluten free beer: Bard's $6.00


Prohibition

The always packed Riverside pub has a long menu of both food and drinks. Its dim lighting and drink and food specials prove to be a winning formula for a fun night out. Gluten free beer: Nickel Brook $7.00


3 Speed

This low-key watering hole in Bloordale draws in locals for its comfortable retro-basement fee and exposed brick walls covered in art. Gluten free beer: New Grist $6.50


The Monarch Tavern

This long time Little Italy fixture goes beyond beer with a a food menu featuring gluten free poutine, grilled cheese and burgers. The large space is spread out over two floors and includes pub games like pool, pinball and darts. Gluten free beer: Bard's $7.00.


WVRST

This beer bar and gourmet sausage eatery inspired by the legendary beer halls of Munich is outfitted with lengthy communal tables ideal for large groups or making new friends. Gluten free beers: Bard's Gold $7.00 and New Grist $7.00.


Beerbistro
