A large portion of Toronto's west end is in darkness this evening following a sudden and massive power outage. The lights went off around 9:15 and some reports on Twitter mentioned a bright flash in the sky. Right now, Toronto Hydro has yet to report the extent of the issue - the server for their outage tracker has crashed due to excess demand - but it appears to be roughly confined to the area between Yonge, Lawrence, Jane, and the waterfront.
Traffic lights are out (remember to treat intersections as a four-way stop) and the TTC is reporting signal problems on parts of Line 1 (Yonge-University-Spadina) and Line 2 (Bloor-Danforth) between Ossington and Keele. Streetcar service is unaffected.
