10 signs you grew up in Richmond Hill

Richmond HillTo Barrie, Richmond Hill is basically Toronto. And to Toronto, it may as well be Barrie. But anyone who grew up in Richmond Hill knows that it's the perfect in-between. That is, until you can afford to move out of your parents' house.

Here are 10 signs you grew up in Richmond Hill.

1. You remember the days of BiWay and Zellers at Hillcrest Mall. And yes, you consider Hillcrest a mall.

2. In high school, you asked a strange man to pretend to be your father so you could get into the 18A movies at Elgin Mills Theatre.

3. You had all your childhood birthday parties at Pro Bowl, Laser Quest, the Wave Pool or You're Fired.

4. Your Friday nights were spent hanging out at Tim Horton's (or in the parking lot if you got kicked out).

5. You tobogganed down the hill behind the Richmond Hill Public Library, hopefully (but not likely) without hitting a tree.

6. You still blame the extra 5lbs you've been trying to ditch since you were a teenager on Joe's Shawarma. And Joe's Hamburgers. And Joe's Fries. Really, you just blame Joe.

7. You were pushed across a frozen pond on a bed during Mill Pond's Winter Carnival, and still none of your friends believe you that bed races are a real thing.

8. You spent hours doing homework at Williams Coffee Pub. Your textbooks and laptop were there, but so were waffles, hot chocolate and all your closest friends. You never really got any work done, but at least your parents thought you were studying.

9. You've listened to a live band at London Pub, taken a picture with the pole at Philthy McNasty's (if you ever made it there for the short time it was around) and spent every Thursday of your summer at the Firkin with the entire summer student staff from the Town of Richmond Hill. You also remember dancing at Nava. But you'd rather not.

10. You drove by the Richmond Hill Curling Club almost every day, but still have never been curling.
