The top 5 free events in Toronto: January 25-31 2016

coldest day of the yearThe top free events in Toronto will have you hitting up parties and getting active. The Gladstone and The Power Plant are both hosting cost-free soirees this coming weekend where you can mix and mingle without spending any of your hard-earned cash. If you'd rather get physical, The Coldest Day of the Year Ride is happening this Sunday starting at Sherbourne Common (remember to layer up).

Here's a roundup of free events in Toronto this week.

Atom Egoyan Lecture (Jan. 27)
While many university students shudder at the term "lecture," some can be more engaging than Stats101. This one is sure to be an interesting. On January 27, director Atom Egoyan will be taking the stage at Walter Hall to discuss his interpretations of a few select opera productions.

That's How I Remember It LIVE (Jan. 27)
If you're a podcast junkie, head to The Ossington on Wednesday night to catch a live recording of That's How I Remember It. The show's regular cast will be there, plus a few special guests.

Gladstone Hotel x Collective Arts Brewing Collab Party (Jan. 28)
Trying to have a fiscally-responsible weekend but don't feel like sacrificing party-going? Head to the Gladstone Melody Bar on Friday for the Gladstone Hotel x Collective Arts Brewing Collab bash. You'll get to see Alanna Gurr & The Greatest State and Callan Furlong perform without dropping a dime. Beers are only $5, but if you've got a tight budget I suggest pre-gaming.

Winter 2016 Opening Party at The Power Plant (Jan. 29)
The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery is kicking off the winter season on Saturday by throwing a bash filled with music, drinks and, of course, an art exhibition. Look forward to seeing pieces by Carlos Amorales, Patrick Bernatchez and more.

The Coldest Day of the Year Ride (Jan. 30)
Since the winter weather rolled in, many Toronto cyclists have traded in their bikes for alternative (warmer) means of transportation. Well, it's time to break out your trusty metal steed on Sunday as The Coldest Day of the Year Ride is returning. Hundreds of cyclists will meet at Sherbourne Common for a 5K ride. Attendees will be hitting up a local tavern post-ride to warm up, so bring a few bucks.
