A sinkhole as large as a SUV opened up today on Runnymede just south of Dundas West in the Junction. Police quickly closed the street to traffic and the TTC has diverted lthe 70 Scarlett Rd bus indefinitely until the road is sufficiently repaired.
Sink holes appear on roads when the soil below the surface is removed by water or other forces. It's likely that heavy rain over the weekend was the culprit although poor construction or water main breaks are among other typical causes.
