Want to train like a UFC fighter? There are plenty of gym in Toronto that specialize in a diverse range of mixed martial arts. These places offer classes in fighting technique but also teach you how to train your body to withstand the rigours of MMA combat.
Here are my picks for the top gyms in Toronto to train like a UFC fighter.
Openmat MMA
This mixed martial arts academy near Yonge and Bloor is a perfect one for beginners. Everyone is welcome and will be trained by instructors who have worked with UFC fighters. You might be new to the experience, but your teachers won't be. Here you'll earn about body conditioning, a portfolio of MMA techniques, and the mental aspect of fighting in the octagon.
Xtreme Couture
This place features over 33,000 sq. ft. of training space and is the largest MMA training facility in Ontario. Extreme welcomes both those who want to train hard like a UFC champ or those just looking to learn the basics of various disciplines like BJJ, wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Krav Maga. There's even an on-site octagon.
Toronto BJJ
You may have spotted this Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) location while on your way to Christie Pits or in your winning Jiu-Jitsu championship dream. Instructors here have trained UFC fighters using the skills and elements of BJJ, but they also do classes for absolute beginners as well. There's a caged area for MMA, and you'll also find instruction in Muay Thai plus women's only classes.
Primal MMA
Leslieville's BJJ, MMA, Muay-Thai and Boxing gym, Primal is a facility that trains well-rounded fighters in a variety of disciplines. With a cardio and circuit-training space upstairs, this gym is a one-stop shop for crafting a fight-worthy body and to acquire the skills required to take it to the octagon with confidence.
UFC Gym
This is Canada's first and only UFC gym. It's officially associated with the organization, and runs over 80 different classes in the facility, including those that specialize in BJJ, boxing, kickboxing, and Muay Thai. Classes begin at youth level and go right up to elite one-on-one instruction. This gym offers unparalleled access to UFC fighters to train alongside.
