The top 10 prepared meal delivery options in Toronto

prepared meals torontoPrepared meal delivery options in Toronto will save you from ordering pizza again. The city is now home to multiple food delivery services, making it easier than ever to get a gourmet meal without ever having to put pants on.

Here are my picks for the top prepared meal delivery options in Toronto.

Chowdy

Chowdy which recently expanded their services to the general public, is a weekly meal subscription. The service includes six to 14 meals every week delivered to your door or for pickup. It works out to roughly $6.99 per meal - slightly more than a Big Mac combo - and you get to choose from a menu that offers different choices each week.

Fuel Foods

If you lack the skills or the motivation to cook yourself the kind of meal that a trainer would recommend, you might want to consider Fuel Foods. The service is the brainchild of two personal trainers who promise to help those too busy to plan and prepare their own meals. For about $50 per day you get three organic and gluten, antibiotic and hormone free meals.

Today's Menu

Today's Menu offers pre-cooked meals that you can heat and serve at home. The service includes a university package as well as one for parents with a new baby. The university package goes for $112 and includes four dinners items and five lunch/side dishes. Vegetation and gluten-free menus are available. The best part? You can order desserts.

Rose Reisman's Personal Gourmet

Rose Reisman's Personal Gourmet is a food delivery service that offers both fresh and frozen delivery plans for weight loss and healthy living. There is even a juice cleanse option for those in need of a detox and a corporate plan for busy professionals who want food delivered to their office. You get about two meals for $30 to $40.

Meal Revolution

Meal Revolution offers one of the most flexible meal delivery plans out there. There are no contracts and no minimum quantity requirements. Each Monday the site posts up to four Paleo-inspired menu options, and you can place your order throughout the week until noon on Saturday. All meals ($12.50) are made from locally sourced grass-fed beef and naturally raised antibiotic-free chicken.

Homes Style

If you crave hearty comfort food, like the ones served on a retro family show from the '50s, Home Style has you covered with items like Mom's mac and cheese and mid-week meatloaf. The food is prepared and delivered to your home, so you just have to heat and serve. The meals range from $5 to $11 per serving, and there is a $5 sign-up fee as well as a delivery charge.

Fresh Canteen

Fresh Canteen is what I would call Cooking 101. It's a service that delivers you all the ingredients you need in the exact amounts along with foolproof recipes that also include step-by step photos. All ingredients are also sourced locally. The cost is $12.50 for each individual personal meal, and no recipe takes more than 35 minutes to prepare.

Mealspirations

Mealspirations also delivers ingredients and recipes that will help you cook at home. Their meal packages are designed for two or four people. The recipes are also marked in terms of cooking skill level, so you can decide if you want to make a shepherd's pie or vegetarian Shanghai noodles. Each meal is $12 per person with a vegetarian menu on the horizon.

Chef's Plate

Chef's Plate is another service that delivers ingredients and recipes to your home for you to cook. The meals at this service are designed by executive chef Jason Rosso, former head chef of Sassafraz and the current national executive chef at Milestones. The meals are approximately $12.50 per serving and include options like chicken paillard with a warm potato salad.

Tiffinday

Vegan Tiffinday lunches are designed to be good for you as well as the planet. Their menu features a variety of dishes from across the Indian subcontinent, so you know that despite the lack of dairy and meat, the meals will be full of flavour. The service is simple - you order by 3pm for delivery at lunch the next day. Menu items range from $4 to $12.50, and there is a delivery charge for orders under $25.
