Toronto is getting a Bill Murray Day

bill murray dayToronto is getting a Bill Murray Day -- and it's about time. We already recognize "World Plumbing Day" and "Oral Health Day," so why not get together and celebrate one of the funniest and talented actors of his generation. Besides, Murray has never been shy about his affection for Toronto.

While not officially proclaimed by the City, Bill Murray Day will dominate the second day of TIFF this year with free screenings at the Lightbox leading up to the world premier of the highly anticipated St. Vincent, Theodore Melfi's new comedy featuring Murray.

On tap are Stripes, Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day, three films from earlier in Murray's career, which get underway September 5th at 10am and run throughout the day.

It's perhaps a bit of a shame that Lost in Translation doesn't find its way into this mix, a film partially responsible for the actor's late career resurgence, but one gets the sense the idea is to keep things as lighthearted as possible. If you manage to attend screenings of all three movies, you'll be eligible for a yet-to-be disclosed prize. That dangle alone is probably worth taking the day off work.
