Toronto overflows with summertime events for beer lovers. These festivals provide the perfect opportunity to soak up some sunshine and promise to bring all your favourite brewers together in one place along with food trucks, live music and cheerful company.
Here are my picks for the top beer festivals in Toronto for summer 2016.
Brewer's Backyard: Lester P. Beerson Day
Evergreen Brickworks | July 1
The Canada Day edition of Brewer's Backyard takes over Koerner Gardens and Holcim Gallery at the Evergreen Brick Works from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free for the afternoon event featuring GLB, Henderson, Pitschfork, Durham, Railway City and Brimstone along with food vendors such as, Kanga Meat Pies, Food Dudes, Urban Carnivore, Fidel Gastro and The Pop Stand.
12 Beers of Summer
Gladstone Hotel | July 29
Tickets are $25 for this all-you-can-sample event at this West Queen West hotel. Ugly Hawaiian shirt are encouraged for the all-night party featuring a dozen brews, live performances, DJs and Shameless Karaoke.
Summer Craft Beer Fest
171 Liberty Street East | July 14
This craft beer festival in Liberty Village will showcase 20-plus craft beer, cider and beverage purveyors when it takes over the cobblestone galleria in the Liberty Market Building. Tickets start at $22.50 and include five sample vouchers.
Toronto's Festival of Beer
Bandshell Park | July 22 - 24
This festival on the CNE grounds boasts over 60 brewers and 300-plus international labels along with local food vendors and live entertainment acts, like hip hop legends House of Pain. General admission is $42.50 and the ticket price includes five sample tokens and a commemorative sampling cup.
Hart House Craft Beer Festival
Hart House | July 28
A curated selection of Canadian craft breweries showcase their newest suds as chef Marco Tucci caters the BBQ for this open-air event held in the Hart House Quad. Count yourself lucky if you got a ticket; the event is already sold out.
Muskoka Brewery's 20th Anniversary Beer Festival
Evergreen Brick Works | August 4
Muskoka Brewery turns 20 this year and it's throwing a birthday bash by inviting 20 fellow Ontario craft breweries to celebrate. Tickets, which include a sampling mug and five vouchers, are $29 in advance or $39 at the gate (cash only). Each participating brewery will pour a special birthday brew just for the occasion.
The Roundhouse Craft Beer Festival
Roundhouse Park | August 13 - 14
More that 25 craft brewers and 10 Toronto food trucks will congregate in the park outside Steam Whistle Brewery for this annual sampling event. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the gates.
CNE Craft Beer Fest
Princes' Blvd. | August 26 - 27
Held in conjunction with the Food Truck Frenzy at The Ex, this beer fest will bring together 11 master craft brewers from across Ontario. Good thing too, you'll probably need a cold one if the food offerings are anything like last year.
Toronto Craft Brew Cruise
The River Gambler | September 10
Another one for your summer bucket list: a cruise aboard The River Gambler for a three hour tour around the harbour in the company of 15 local craft breweries and cider producers. Tickets are $45 and include four sample tokens and a commemorative mug.
Toronto Beer Week
Various venues | September 16 -24
TBW isn't just a single event, but rather a collective series of 100-plus events over nine days at venues across Toronto. While event details have yet to be announced, The Beer Experience kick-off party is on September 15 at the Berkeley Church (315 Queen St. E.)
