Dashcam footage appears to show Canadian Tire employee joyriding in customer's car

Dashcam footage can capture accidents, criminal activity, road rage, and more. But, they can also catch auto service staff taking a joyride in your fancy car.

Footage sent in from Markham resident David Ha shows exactly that—a Canadian Tire service staff member taking a Mercedes M2 Coupe out for a test drive that perhaps ventured a little too far into "joyride" territory.

"My friend dropped his BMW M2 for a tire swap, and the Canadian Tire employee took it out for a joyride without his permission," Ha said in an email. His friend did not want to be named.

"You can see the employee revving the engine hard and driving very aggressively."

In the video, the dashcam speed register shows the car reaching speeds of 112 km/h and whipping down a residential street, where the limit posted is 40 km/h. It speeds around several corners before coming back to the Canadian Tire, located at 2900 Major Mackenzie Dr E.

Furthermore, the driver revvs the engine several times and accelerates at high speeds through turns and stop signs, frequently cutting into the other lane. Test drives are not wrong or uncommon, but they usually don't consist of drivers reaching speeds that are legally considered street racing

At the beginning of the video, another staff member can be heard saying "Careful, he has a camera. Don't look too f---ed up in case he's recording. Be careful."

The vehicle's owner filed a complaint but has yet to receive feedback from Canadian Tire.

"Once my friend got home and checked the dash cam, that's when he got upset and filed a complaint online at the Canadian Tire website. He has not heard back," Ha explains in an email.

"He did not complain or confront anybody at the store because he didn't realize how fast or aggressive the employee was driving."

Canadian Tire has yet to respond to a request for comment.
