The Best Tacos in Toronto

The best tacos in Toronto are handheld miracles, and they tend to start with a scratch corn tortilla. No matter what these small wonders are stuffed with, a platter of this classic Mexican street food never disappoints, and always goes great with a margarita.

Here are the best tacos in Toronto.

10 - La Carnita (Queen East)

This mini-chain with locations throughout Toronto serves some of the city’s most accessible and popular tacos, and companion business Sweet Jesus is a great follow-up for dessert.
11 - Playa Cabana

Several locations of this spot all have their own little spins on tacos, but they’re all fabulous and the OG Playa Cabana on Dupont serves tacos stuffed with short rib and even lobster.
9 - Cinco Mexican Restaurant

Roncesvalles has this slightly sleepy spot for gourmet tacos served on purple tortillas sandwiching cheese, with a full station of homemade hot sauces.
3 - Seven Lives

Kensington has this destination for fish tacos the size of your face, but every taco at this teeny stand is stuffed full and delicious.
4 - Itacate

Tortillas are handmade at this Mexican joint hidden inside a butcher shop on St. Clair West. Seating is scant but stone bowls of sauces are put out to accompany, and the tongue is absolutely to die for.
5 - El Nahual

As much as possible is done from scratch at this Eglinton taqueria, where fish and al pastor tacos get prettier plating than you’d expect from such a minuscule restaurant. They also have an Annex Food Hall location.
6 - Good Hombres

This Bathurst spot is the sibling to Campechano, and uses the same locally produced tortillas made from handmade masa. This touch makes all their tacos from bistec to poblano next level.
7 - Campechano

In the King West neighbourhood, this place makes their own tortillas out of their own masa for some of the best fish tacos in the city, best enjoyed on the patio with a drink.
8 - Grand Electric

Taco lovers have been beating down the door at this Mexican restaurant in Parkdale since day one, with cauliflower and fish versions as beloved as their killer margaritas.
