10 things to do in Toronto this week

This week is a cold one in Toronto, giving you all the more reason to go somewhere indoors with a lot of people sharing body heat. Fortunately, Toronto events like Long Winter and Clash of the Comics will let you do just that. If you feel like braving the cold, the new skate trail under the Gardiner opens up and the annual No Pants Subway Ride goes down.

Events you might want to check out:

Up and Comers (January 2 @ Rivoli)
This touring lgbtq+ comedy showcase lands at the Rivoli, putting a spotlight on emerging talents from the queer community. Tuesday's show marks the first time this lineup shares the stage together.
Next Stage Festival (January 3-14 @ Factory Theatre)
The future of theatre takes the stage at this premiere winter event. New works by established Fringe artists premiere at this observance of stage culture.
Clash Of The Comics (January 4 @ 120 Diner)
Sixteen of Toronto's funniest battle it out roast style in an elimination tournament where the winners and losers are determined by crowd vote. This January edition is the 2017 Championship round!
The Killers (January 5 @ Air Canada Centre)
Mr. Brightside himself, Brandon Flowers, and the rest of his Las Vegas rock band take over the ACC to play wonderful songs from their wonderful new album, titled Wonderful Wonderful.
DJ Skate Nights: Soul On Ice (January 6 @ Harbourfront Centre)
Soul Kitchen returns to Harbourfront Centre to begin a new year with a little Soul On Ice as Jester & Kid Kut bring the vibes to the Natrel Rink for the weekly skate party.
Long Winter (January 5 @ Gladstone Hotel)
Long Winter finds a new home this month, bringing its all ages, all access music and arts party to the Gladstone Hotel. These shows are never a bad time and are almost always the coolest thing happening that night.
Really Really Free Market (January 6 @ Campbell Park)
This Saturday you can head to Campbell Park to stuff your bags with other people's stuff without feeling like a jerk. It's a no money swapping market, and you can bring your own old stuff to donate too, if you'd like.
Exclaim's Class of 2018 (January 6 @ Smiling Buddha)
Exclaim! Magazine and legendary show promoter Dan Burke are partnering to bring you a sample of the new year's most promising talent. It's the first Toronto show of the now multi-city concert series.
The Mayor's Bentway Skate Party (January 7 @ The Bentway)
Can't get enough of skating? If so, Mayor John Tory is hosting a party on Sunday at the Bentway, with complimentary skate rentals and hot chocolate on him!
No Pants Subway RIde (January 7 @ TTC)
The 17th annual No Pants Subway Ride happens in cities across the globe on Sunday, encouraging you to drop your trousers on the TTC. It should go without saying but please don't do this on any other day!
