The Best New Cheap Eats in Toronto

The best new cheap eats in Toronto let you dine on a budget without skimping out on the flavour. These recent arrivals have hit the city with a mix of affordable bites for $15 and under: you don’t need much to pig out on soup dumplings and tacos.

Here are the best new cheap eats in Toronto.

3 - Egg Bae

Most of the gooey egg sandwiches from this Kensington Market eatery costs less than $10, which is pretty good considering even their bread is made from scratch. Try their signature Egg Bae sandwich for just $7.
8 - Good Hombres

It’s tortillas galore at this taqueria at Dundas and Bathurst. All tacos are only $3.75, meaning you can buy a tortilla filled with carne asada, tinga, or bistec—or even better, all three—and still be safely within budget.
4 - Juicy Dumpling

This speedy Chinatown dumpling takeout spot has exploded in popularity—kind of like how their xiaolongbaos explode in your mouth. Six pieces of mini soup dumplings are only $2.99, and they’re really not that small. Four pan fried pork buns only cost $3.99.
5 - Chica's Nashville Hot Chicken

Meals from this Junction fried chicken spot run close to max budget, but for the size it’s pretty worth it. One piece of their fiery Nashville-style bird costs $14.25 and comes with a side, white bread, pickles, and some buttermilk ranch dip.
6 - Banh Mi Metro

Just like their sister restaurant Pho Metro, the food here doesn’t disappoint. This banh mi spot in Wexford has a menu of cheap Vietnamese buns, kimchi fries with pulled pork and delicious baos, all for under $6 each.
7 - Vit Beo

Vietnamese snacks served late into the night are this Bloorcourt restaurant’s specialty. Squeeze into this tiny space and have a late night snack of rice dumplings, beef pho, or brown rice congee. Prices run between $6 and $12 per plate.
9 - Sang-Ji Fried Bao

Crispy, juicy Shanghainese-style pan-fried baos take a while to make here (expect a wait of about 10 to 15 minutes) but it’s well worth a visit to this tiny restaurant on Byng Ave. Four pieces of bao are $6.99, but they’re so good you’ll probably want more than one order.
10 - Yak Cafe

To really get a bang for your buck, head to Parkdale for a cheap meal at this Tibetan spot. You’ll definitely leave full after Tibetan bento box ($8.99) full of chow mein, veggies, and a fluffy Tibetan steamed bun. Indian thalis are just $7.99, same goes for baskets of tasty momos.
11 - Al Deewan

It doesn’t get homier than this Scarborough plaza shop on Kennedy Road serving Lebanese flat breads. Manakeesh is baked fresh and comes piping hot of the oven. Slices of meat and za’atar covered bread are only $2.50 to $4; a whole slab of manakeesh is $8.
